Lee Langston Receives ASME Sawyer Award
Mechanical Engineering professor emeritus Lee Langston is the 2015 recipient of the R. Tom Sawyer Award presented by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Forty-three men from all over the world have received the award, which is a major industry honor.

A variety of activities are planned at UConn in recognition of the national Discover Engineers Week (February 16-22, 2014), including an all-school Engineering Career Fair and “Celebration of Women in Engineering” activities to be held on Tuesday, February 18th.
Dr. Kazem Kazerounian Selected Engineering Dean
UConn Provost and Executive VP for Academic Affairs Mun Y. Choi announced the appointment of Dr. Kazem Kazerounian as Dean of the School of Engineering following a nationwide search.
Dr. Robert Gao Receives I&M Society’s 2013 Technical Award
Pratt & Whitney Endowed Chair Professor in Mechanical Engineering Dr. Robert X. Gao has been selected to receive the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (I&M) 2013 Technical Award, one of just four awards presented yearly by the society.
CASE Honors Four UConn Engineers
Three faculty members were inducted into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering on May 22 during a gala event: Drs. Thomas Barber, Wilson K. S. Chiu and Mei Wei are among 33 new members who were elected in the 2013 class. In addition, alumnus Dr. Anthony DeMaria received the 2013 CASE Distinguished Service Award for his enduring contributions to the Academy as a charter member, fourth president and past-president.

Innovators Feted
UConn Engineering was well represented during the Second Annual Celebration of Innovation, presented by the UConn Office of Economic Development on April 10th. The gala event afforded the innovation community an opportunity to network and to celebrate the achievements of some of its most outstanding members.
Commencement 2013: SWE CEO Betty Shanahan to Speak
The School of Engineering will celebrate undergraduate commencement on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Gampel Pavilion, Storrs. A highlight will be guest speaker, Betty Shanahan, Executive Director and CEO of the national Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Dr. Amir Faghri Receives Coveted ASME Award
Amir Faghri, Ph.D., a professor of engineering at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and leading researcher in the field of advanced energy systems, has been honored jointly by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
About Drs. Mun Choi and Kazem Kazerounian: Brief Bios
Dr. Mun Choi joined UConn as Dean of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 2008, and Dr. Kazerounian joined the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1984 after completing his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1984.

As part of an ongoing commitment to providing leadership in education, research, and innovation of clean and efficient energy systems, the Center for Clean Energy Engineering (C2E2) is pleased to highlight its sponsorship and participation in the Eighth International Fuel Cell Science, Engineering & Technology Conference hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
School Honors Eight
The School of Engineering inducted seven accomplished alumni into the Academy of Distinguished Engineers and also feted a local entrepreneur during its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. The gala event capped a day in which the new inductees presented seminars on a range of technical and professional topics.
Four Elected to CASE
Four UConn engineering faculty have been elected to membership in the prestigious Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE). They will be formally inducted during the Academy’s 35th annual meeting on May 20, 2010.
