Researchers Aim to Regenerate Human Limbs by 2030
On Veteran’s Day the University of Connecticut announced the launch of its new grand research challenge: regeneration of a human knee within 7 years, and an entire limb within 15 years. This major international research undertaking, called The HEAL Project, stands for Hartford Engineering a Limb.
Lee Langston Receives ASME Sawyer Award
Mechanical Engineering professor emeritus Lee Langston is the 2015 recipient of the R. Tom Sawyer Award presented by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Forty-three men from all over the world have received the award, which is a major industry honor.

Six faculty were recognized for excellence in graduate student advising and faculty peer mentorship. Outstanding Faculty Advisor Awards were presented to Drs. Pamir Alpay (MSE), Reda Ammar (CSE), Wei Sun (ME), and Shengli Zhou (ECE). Outstanding Faculty Mentoring Awards went to: Drs. Jun-Hong Cui (CSE) and Ranjan Srivastava (ChE).
Lanbo Liu Awarded a Fulbright Fellowship
Dr. Lanbo Liu, an associate professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE), won a prestigious Fulbright Scholar grant in the fall (’09) to conduct research at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. He is among six UConn scholars to receive the honor during the 2009-10 academic year.
