NSF Bridge to the Doctorate Program Renewed
For the second time, UConn has received NSF funding for the LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) program, which fellowships for underrepresented students pursuing Ph.D.s in STEM disciplines.
New GAANN for UConn Engineering Team
Three Computer Science & Engineering faculty have received a highly competitive Department of Education Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) three-year award of more than $805,000, which will support fellowships for graduate students pursuing research in “exascale computing.” Dr. Chun-Hsi (Vincent) Huang is the lead investigator on the grant.

UConn to Receive USDOT Funding
In January, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced it will award $77 million in grants to 22 University Transportation Centers (UTCs) to advance research and education programs that address critical transportation challenges. UConn will receive a portion of the funding, as a member of a university consortium awarded $3.5 million under the program.
About Drs. Mun Choi and Kazem Kazerounian: Brief Bios
Dr. Mun Choi joined UConn as Dean of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 2008, and Dr. Kazerounian joined the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1984 after completing his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1984.
Balla Wins SRK Fellowship
Sudha Balla, a doctoral candidate in the Computer Science & Engineering department, has won a prestigious Sallie Rosen Kaplan (SRK) Fellowship for Women Scientists in Cancer Research, awarded by the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
